INSPIRATION - DISNEYLAND SIGN

Disneyland California entrance sign 1958-1989

Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker's Disneyland inspired baby shower featured this replica sign at the entrance. It is an appropriation of the original, made to a high standard, perhaps beating the original in terms of design. It is sleeker, more modern and visually appealing. The sign was created for an event, a one off, which made me wonder, what would happen to it? It is likely hidden away in storage or even been thrown away. The Kardashian's are known for their unimaginable wealth, and waste.

This inspired me to sketch my own Disneyland inspired sign using my title 'Forsaken'

I would love to create this sign, and would be straight forward to make, especially using the laser cutter.

ARTIST - ESPO

Stephen Powers AKA Espo is an American graffiti writer turned fine artist. He became well known in the 90's for his pieces in NYC and Philadelphia. His work stood out from other writers due to his highly stylised text pieces such as this 'I Love You' chain piece.

Some of ESPO's more recent work explores themes of mental health and relationships. There are undertones of humour and the colour palette is nearly always bright and colourful. I feel a strong connection to his work due to the themes and palette.

SIGNS IN THE WILD - PARIS

I visited Disneyland Paris with my family, and took some pictures of signage I saw.

There were heavy vintage Americana influences, obviously due to the American roots of Disneyland and Walt Disney. I was so inspired by all of the signage I saw, in particular their vintage aesthetic with modern influences and design values.
